What is mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary collaborative approach to resolving disputes using the assistance of an impartial third party.

In mediation, disputing parties control the outcome by deciding how to resolve the issues. Disputing parties can share different viewpoints in a safe, supportive environment and come to a mutually acceptable agreement.

Mediation is an alternative to litigation, avoidance, destructive confrontation or violence.

Why mediate?
  • Mediation is fair and neutral because parties have an equal say in resolving the issues
  • Mediation saves time and money
  • Mediation is confidential
  • Mediated settlements are more likely to end the dispute

when can mediation help?
  • Where neighbours are causing a disturbance or a nuisance
  • Where property has been damaged
  • Where your property or privacy is invaded
  • Where there is conflict

        • Within community groups
        • At work
